The Scranton School District will kick-off the student and employee campaigns to support the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne County (UWLWC) on Monday, October 15, 2018. The campaign will conclude on October 26, 2018 with a dress down day. The United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties has earned the highest possible 4-star rating for demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency by Charity Navigator for the 7th consecutive year. Only five percent of charities perform at this level nationwide, indicating our United Way far exceeds industry standards and outperforms most other charities in America.
The United Way supports many agencies in our community that provide services to our students and their families. This past summer, our elementary schools were open one day a week for 6 weeks for a summer literacy camp. Last year, the United Way piloted a volunteer tutoring program in 2 of our elementary schools. The program has now grown to 4 schools. These projects were sponsored by United Way funding and are just a few examples of the benefits we receive in the school district, thanks to the United Way.
Please be as generous as possible this year. If you have contributed in the past, please try to increase your contribution this year. If you haven’t participated in the campaign before, I hope this is the year that you will get on board. Every dollar helps for the United Way to continue their great work.
